摘要
佛、佛法的概念出现于古印度。佛的最初含义指的是觉悟了的人,佛法的含义指的是觉悟了的人所用的使自己以及他人觉悟的方法。这两个概念最初产生于婆罗门教,到了后来被新兴的沙门思潮所广泛采用。佛教创始者释迦牟尼在自己的著述中也表达了这种观点,只要不违背释迦牟尼的教义,能让人脱离轮回的思想或宗教都可以称之为佛法。佛教传入中国之后,形成了中国化的佛教宗派——禅宗。在佛教思想的影响下,中国本土的道教、儒教均深入探求彼岸世界,形成了自己信仰中的佛、佛法的概念。因此,佛、佛法并非佛教的专有名词。佛、佛法的外延和内涵远远大于佛教。
The concepts of Buddha and Dharma stem from ancient India.The original meaning of Buddha is the awakened one,while Dharma refers to the method with which one awakens himself or herself and others.The two concepts stemming from Brahmanism were widely adopted by later emerging Samana.The founder of Buddhism,Shakyamuni,also expressed the idea in his own writings that any thought or religion that could help people escape from the reincarnation could be called as Buddhism as long as it didn’t violate his teachings.When introduced to China,Buddhism formed a Chinese-style sect called“Chan”(or Zen).Influenced by Buddhist teachings,Taoism and Confucianism,two native Chinese religions,both explored the otherworldly realm and developed their self-believed concepts of Buddha and Dharma.Therefore,Buddha and Dharma are not exclusive terms of Buddhism,whose denotation and connotation are far richer than Buddhism.
