Swift's A Tale of a Tub,published in 1704 for intervening La Querelle des Anciens et des Modernes, has earned him some reputations.Yet the bizarre conformation and labyrinth-like references also made his book an“orphaned text".Most critics, while ignoring the intertextuality betwixt A Tale of a Tub and its concomitant texts, focus their perspectives on formal analysis thus tending to overlook the ecclesiastical politics theme hidden beneath the allegorical narrative in the main storyline. As Swift's replies to Deists,to the conflicts between the divine and the secular and the quarrels on constitutional order,A Tale of a Tub,with its concomitant texts,we may say, have mapped out the implicit intellectual background for Swift's writings.
