The author's“Four rectifications”has provided a clear understanding of the concept of Records in terms of name, meaning, reasoning, and jurisprudence. However, there are still those who argue for the view of“records as documents”and raise questions about the distinction between records and archives. How should we translate these terms when they are used interchangeably? Some even suggest that Records are simply a form of documentation. The debate surrounding Records and archives stems from differences in English and French terminology.By delving into the history of English records and French archives,we can unravel this issue.By examining key figures and events in the 800-year history of records and archives management in England and France,we can explore the origins, essence, content, and evolution of these concepts. This historical analysis will help us understand the complex relationship between records and archives, and shed light on their conceptual history.
