美国大学招生标准化考试的有效性问题探讨——基于加州大学的研究结果

摘要 加州大学于2020年取消在本科招生中对SAT和ACT成绩的要求,不再将标准化考试成绩作为招生评价的重要因素。在此之前,加州大学对标准化考试进行了深入研究,评估其在招生和学生学业预测中的有效性。研究结果表明:标准化考试成绩与学生的族裔、家庭收入以及父母的教育程度具有显著相关性,与高中成绩则呈现中度相关性;标准化考试成绩对大学学业成绩的预测力较弱,尤其是在考虑高中成绩后,标准化考试成绩对大学学业成绩的预测力增幅较小。基于这些研究结果,加州大学决定在本科生招生综合评价中不再要求学生提交标准化考试成绩。取消标准化考试成绩要求后,加州大学的招生结果及入读学生的学业表现并未发生显著变化,对大学招生和学生入学第一年的学业表现也并未造成负面影响。 In 2020,the University of California decided to eliminate the requirement for SAT and ACT standardized test scores in undergraduate admissions.This signifies that standardized test scores,which have been traditionally used for about a century,will no longer be considered as a factor in the admissions evaluation process at the University of California.Prior to this landmark decision,the university conducted an in-depth study to assess both the validity of standardized tests in admissions and their predictive power on student academic performance.The research findings indicate a significant correlation between standardized test scores and students'race/ethnicity,family income,and parental education levels.Additionally,a moderate correlation exists between standardized test scores and high school grades,suggesting that the measured academic knowledge and abilities are not entirely consistent with high school GPA.While standardized test scores,to some extent,can predict students'college academic performance,its predictive power is limited.This limitation becomes more apparent when considering high school GPA,as the incremental increase in predictive power of standardized test scores on college academic performance is minimal.Based on these research results,although the University of California acknowledges the value of standardized tests,it concluded that there is no longer a need to consider these scores in the comprehensive review of undergraduate admissions at the university.Subsequent to the removal of this evaluation factor,no significant changes have been observed in either admission outcomes or the current academic performance of enrolled students at the University of California,suggesting minimal impact on the university's admissions and student success.
