In Two Trains Running,August Wilson uses the restaurant to landscape the cultural memory of African-Americans.Through oral traditions,he interweaves daily interactions as well as mythological and religious rituals to build a memory space. In this way he tries to break the white society’s selection and control of social memory and fight against the amnesia of African-Americans on their past in order to form a spiritual community. The paper analyzes the reproduction of memory and the construction of community consciousness from the perspective of cultural memory. It helps readers understand better the history, religious belief and culture of black Americans implied in the drama,as well as the role of cultural memory in generating community consciousness.
