By researching the Dunhuang manuscripts originally collected by Lian Quan and Wu Zhiying,a literati couple of the Qing dynasty and Republic of China periods, two manuscripts written in red originally collected by the couple and now held in the Nanjing University Museum, and relevant historical documents, the authors present a textual research of the documents in order to clarify the authenticity of the preface and postscript of certain manuscripts, and to confirm the identity of the names printed in the seals on the scrolls.Historical research on the couple's activities indicates that they likely obtained these Dunhuang Buddhist manuscripts, which originally belonged to the Dunhuang Library Cave, from Sun Hanya around 1910-1911.Before Lian Quan's death in 1931,the couple's collection of Dunhuang manuscripts was partially scattered to various other collections, and a public auction shortly after Lian Quan's death marked the thorough dispersion of these manuscripts.
