In 2017,the National Museum of Scotland,in collaboration with 36 institutions across Scotland, lauched a project to survey the East Asian collections across the region, with the results published in the form of a report in early 2020.Based on this survey report, this study focuses on the period from the late 19th century to the early 20th century when Chinese goods were taken in large quantities to Scotland. With collectors of different identities as the starting point, the collections transferred from China to Scotland during this period are placed in the life of individual collectors against the macro-historical background. The reconstruction of the identities of collections and collectors in the historical scene can help to reveal the interactions between China and Scotland, the reception of Chinese artifacts in foreign lands and the reasons behind it.It is also a part of the historical picture of Scotland.
