摘要
乾隆十三年(1748)敕撰的“华夷译语”中首次出现了汉语和西洋语言的对译辞书,其中葡、德、法、意、拉五种译语中均有“西洋馆”字样。德汉辞书《额哷马尼雅语》是目前唯一可以确认(部分)译者的一种,其译者、德意志来华耶稣会士魏继晋的一段话也成为迄今为止推测其他译者身份的唯一线索。然而这语焉不详的一段话所含的信息量其实很有限,参与翻译者到底有谁、身份为何,难以凭此断言。本文从五种译语的文本出发,结合中西文史料,试图揭示外国传教士在五种译语翻译过程中的参与程度、分工模式,确认译者群体的身份,并对译者的具体名单做出一些初步的推测。
For the first time,a series of dictionaries of Chinese and Western languages were compiled by a decree of Emperor Qianlong in 1748.In the five translation languages,namely,Portuguese,German,French,Italian and Latin,there was the word“Xiyangguan西洋馆”.The German-Chinese dictionary is the only one of which the translators can be(partially)identified.A quotation from its translator,the German Jesuit Florian Bahr,is the only clue to the identity of the other translators so far.Unfortunately,the information contained in that vague passage is actually limited,and it is hard to confirm who participated in translating and what their identities were.Based on the five translations and Chinese and Western historical sources,this article attempts to reveal foreign missionaries’involvement in the compilation,the division of their work,and the identities of the translators,and to make a preliminary specific list of the translators.
