As a genre literature based on Western ideology, science fiction has long been filled with the discourse of Western-centrism.However,the classic works of British writer Arthur C.Clarke has presented a deconstruction of the“Science Fiction West”,unconsciously and intentionally. And it is particularly evident in his three aesthetic interpretations of the“Big Dumb Objects”image.By reimagining the scene of a spaceship hovering over the city,Clarke fuses the theological and philosophical traditions of European literature with science fiction themes. His depiction of the ruins of alien civilizations dissolves the Western Exceptionalism on a grand scale. And his extraordinarily high regard for the Space Elevator further reflects his romantic ideals in the technological age.Taking Arthur C.Clarke as an example,we can see that a truly transcendent science fiction always deconstructs the“Science Fiction West”first.
