As a representative writer of the Southern Renaissance in the United States,William Faulkner vividly depicts the historic changes encountered by the south after the American Civil War with a strong local color, and reproduces the spiritual crisis and cultural difficulties faced by the southern people during the alternation of the old and new civilizations. In"The Rose to Emily",Emily, under the bondage of the traditional southern culture, leads to psychopathy and personality distortion, which develops into a typical neurotic personality.Using Carenhoni's theory of neurosis as a framework, this paper explores the structure of Emily's neurologic personality, analyzes the influence of individual environment and sociocultural environment on the formation and development of Emily's pathological personality, and reveals the root cause of Emily's tragic fate.
