In 2019,the Nanjing City Institute of Archaeology discovered four brick chamber tombs of the Six Dynasties period at the southern foot of Mufu Mountain in the northern suburbs of Nanjing.Amongst them, tombs Nos.2 and 3 are dome-vaulted brick tombs with front and rear chambers, yielding grave goods such as pottery, celadon, and objects made of gold, silver, copper and iron.A brick funerary land deed was unearthed from tomb No.3,which was inferred as the joint burial for the Eastern Wu general Ding Feng and his wife. While the occupant of tomb No.2,located to the west of tomb No.3,is likely Ding Feng's elder relative. This discovery provides key new material for the study of the burial system during the Six Dynasties period, and thus is of great significance for studying the periodization of Eastern Wu tombs,as well as social customs, burial practices, and funerary traditions.
