摘要
“金苹果”是希腊神话的一个重要构成元素,围绕“金苹果”展开的若干神话故事,不仅有着自成体系的文字记录,而且在古希腊瓶画和雕塑作品中有着丰富多样的表现。从最早的神话记录文字来看,“金苹果”的“金”指的是“全金的”,而非指“金黄色的”。“金苹果”的意思就是“黄金做的一种树上结出的果实”。而究竟这种果实是什么果实,还没有一个定论,有的学者认为是香橼,有的学者认为是榅桲,而有的学者则认为是石榴。疏通这些故事的相互关系,结合诸多古希腊瓶画以及雕塑作品中的相关内容,可确定“金苹果”的真实身份。
The Golden Apple is an essential element of Greek Mythology.Stories about Golden Apples have their systematic narrative recordings as well as abundant expressions in ancient Greek pottery paintings and sculptures.According to the earliest Mythographer,Hesiod,the word Golden in Golden Apples meant pure gold,rather than golden color.And in Greek,the word Apple,which spelledη~,withμη~λαas its plural form,could mean the modern apples,and any tree-fruit.Therefore,Golden Apples could probably mean any tree-fruits that were made of pure gold.But there is not,until now,a consensus about which kind of fruit Golden Apple actually denotes.Some scholars thought they were citrons,while others reckon them as quinces,still others regard them as pomegranates.This paper tries to identify what kind of fruit Golden Apples might actually be,on the basis of clarifying the connection between related ancient texts and referring to ancient Greek pottery paintings as well as sculptures.
