Endocrine-disrupting chemicals(EDCs)are commonly present in daily life, which damage human reproductive health by altering the function of the endocrine system.Epidemiological studies have found that exposure to EDCs may increase the overall risk of early hypofunction of ovary, leading to the diminish of ovarian reserve, decline of fertility or fecundity, irregularity of the menstrual cycle,an earlier age at menopause, and premature ovarian insufficiency. Its mechanism may lead to impaired ovarian follicle development by altering receptor-mediated pro apoptotic pathways, inducing signal transduction, and epigenetic modifications. This article summarizes the correlation and mechanism of action between EDCs and premature ovarian insufficiency, and explores future research directions.
