摘要
美国文学家辛克莱·刘易斯具有强烈的地理空间意识,在其作品《大街》中,刘易斯刻画了各具意义的地理空间,展示了美国一战前后城市与乡村变迁的缩影,及在城乡变迁进程中人追求革故鼎新,摈弃保守狭隘的生活愿景。文章从文学地理学的视角出发,依次探讨双城、格佛草原镇和华盛顿的地理景观,分析不同地理空间中人物关系的建构,例证刘易斯城乡空间建构中所展现的美国城市与乡村的对峙及卡罗尔的心路历程。
American writer Sinclair Lewis has a strong sense of geographical space.In his work"Main Street",Lewis depicts each meaningful geographical space and shows the American urban and rural changes before and after the microcosm,and displays the desires of the pursuit of innovation and the abandonment of the conservative narrow vision of life in the process of urban and rural changes.From the perspective of literary geography,this paper discusses the geographical landscape of twin cities,Gever Steppe Town and Washington in turn,analyzes the construction of the relationship between people in different geographical space,and exemplifies the confrontation between American cities and villages and the journey of Carroll in the urban and rural spatial construction of Lewis.
