Ravelstein,Saul Bellow's last novel,is written in AIDS narrative as a reminiscence of Allan Bloom, his lifetime friend and a professor of politics and philosopher. The controversy in academic field about this novel centers around an ethical choice in a truthful or fictionalized narrative. In fact,Bellow adopts the metaphor of AIDS narrative to represent a Chicago intellectual ethos through the embodiment of characters. In this way,he presents a humanistic understanding towards life politics against postmodern“cultural wars”,and a Bellowian rhetoric of fictionalized narrative with Aristotle's ethos appeal.
