摘要
近年来,恩古吉连续推出了三部自传性作品,为具有悠久历史的非洲自传文学传统作出了独特贡献。《战时梦》是该自传三部曲的第一部。一生以历史书写为己任的恩古吉在自传创作中延续了这一风格,《战时梦》不仅书写了微观层面上的个人史,同时还展现了中观层面上的家族史和宏观层面上的国族史。三个层面的历史书写共筑了一幅多维的历史画卷。本文从恩古吉的自传三部曲和非洲自传文学传统出发,来审视《战时梦》中书写的个人求学史、家族生存史和国族斗争史,以期通过多维的历史书写,探寻这位作家、理论家和社会活动家复杂又矛盾的文学观、艺术观和政治观的成因,以及恩古吉独特的自传书写方式对非洲文学自传传统的贡献。
In recent years,Ngugi has produced three autobiographical works consecutively,making a unique contribution to the time-honored African tradition of autobiographical literature.Dreams in a Time of War:A Childhood Memoir is the first book of Ngugi's autobiographical trilogy.Ngugi,a self-empowered writer of African history,continues this style in his autobiography.Dream in a Time of War:A Childhood Memoir not only delineates personal history at the micro level,but also presents family history at the middle level and national history at the macro level.The three levels of historical writing jointly draw a multidimensional historical picture.This paper examines the personal experience of education,family history of survival and national history of struggle in Dreams in a Time of War:A Childhood Memoir from the perspective of Ngugi's trilogy of autobiographies and the African autobiographical literary tradition,with a view to exploring the causes of the Ngugi's complex and ambivalent literary,artistic and political views as a writer,theorist and social activist with reference to his multidimensional historical writing.Meanwhile this paper will also highlight Ngugi's unique autobiographical writing style and his contribution to African literary autobiographical tradition.
