In a broader context of ganlan structure(pile-built timber construction)across Asia, this article examines the vernacular architecture of Lianghekou Village in Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the Wuling Mountains of Central China.Through field investigations, topological analysis, and experimental design, the article reveals the self-adaptability of ganlan architecture in Wuling Mountains, and explains how such buildings’spatial topology adapts to changing functions and sites. In addition,it reflects on the authenticity and regeneration of architectural heritage in terms of construction techniques and culture, providing a potential path for the adaptive reuse of ganlan architecture in modern practices. The study were presented in one collateral event at the 17th Venice Biennale in 2021,and subsequently became a permanent exhibition open to the public in Lianghekou Village.
