African American female writer Zola Neil Heston’s“Their Eyes Were Watching God”tells the story of the protagonist Jenny, from three aspects:patriarchy, racial discrimination, and nature, who never knew anything about the world,to experiencing three marriages and eventually growing into a self-respecting and independent woman.Under the dual oppression of gender discrimination and racial discrimination, the protagonist Jenny does not succumb to fate and constantly pursues herself until her female consciousness awakens in her heart. This also makes“Their Eyes Were Watching God”the first work to showcase the awakening of black women’s inner consciousness.
