摘要
伊格尔顿把价值问题与趣味相提并论。若要领略“伊格尔顿体”的趣味,就须从它对于各种价值问题的甄别艺术入手。无论是进行高深的理论辨析,还是对具体的作品解读,伊格尔顿都显示了不可多得的鉴赏力,而其中的诀窍可以归结为三个字:辩证法。还须强调的是,不从公共精神的角度切入,任何对伊格尔顿趣味观的认识就会大打折扣。这在他跟布尔迪厄的交集中可见一斑:他曾批评后者的信仰里缺了解放全人类的诉求。对伊格尔顿来说,这一诉求是趣味的最高体现。
Terry Eagleton tends to place taste on a par with the value-question. To fully appreciate the taste of “Eagletonism,” one has to begin with its art of value judgements.Either in profound theoretical analysis or in specific interpretations of literary works,Eagleton has demonstrated an extraordinary perspicacity, which boils down to the knack of using dialectics. It remains to be pointed out that an adequate understanding of Eagleton’s views on taste presupposes taking as a point of entry his public spirit, which manifests itself in his criticism of Pierre Bourdieu whose doxa is impoverished by the absence of the drive to emancipation. To Eagleton, in short, the drive to the emancipation of mankind embodies the highest realm of taste.
