The representative writer of German romantic literature Ludwig Tieck attaches great importance to the visual and auditory dimensions of literary texts. In his masterpiece The Fair-Haired Eckbert, the audio-visual language based on painting and music is well expressed. “Pseudomorphosis” is an enlightening concept in comparative art research. It focuses on the audio-visual cognition in the interaction of multiple media, which could help to explore the visual and auditory cognition aroused by this artistic fairy tale and decode the audio-visual cognitive world hidden under the surface of written language in this fairy tale. Through the multiple interaction between literature and painting, literature and music, the latent image of painting and music in The Fair-Haired Eckbert enters the reader’s cognitive world, shapes the audio-visual image of the cognitive subject and evokes pseudomorphs of painting and music in a three-dimensional audio-visual cognitive space.
