The Influence of Imagined Intergroup Contact on Cooperative Behavior:The Mediating Role of Implicit Gender Prejudice

摘要 通过两个实验考察了想象性群际接触对异性间内隐性别偏见与合作行为的影响。实验1采用单类内隐联想测验检验想象性接触对内隐性别偏见的影响,实验2进一步考察想象性接触对囚徒困境、公共资源困境和公共物品困境中合作行为的影响,以及内隐性别偏见的中介作用。实验1发现,与对照组相比,无论男生还是女生,想象接触组的内隐性别偏见更低。实验2发现,在囚徒困境中,想象接触组的合作行为更多,内隐性别偏见起部分中介作用;在公共资源困境中,想象接触组男生的合作行为更少,女生无差异;在公共物品困境中,两组的合作行为差异不显著。结果表明,想象性群际接触能够改善异性间的内隐性别偏见,且能通过降低内隐性别偏见增加两人困境中异性间的合作行为。 Imagined intergroup contact is a new and effective indirect contact strategy for improving intergroup attitudes and promoting more positive intergroup relations.Recently,many studies have shown that imagined intergroup contact can not only reduce implicit prejudice but also improve intergroup cooperation.However,previous studies have confirmed that imagined contact can impact implicit intergroup attitudes among different religions,races,or other groups,and only focused on the impact of imagined contact on cooperative behavior in the prisoner’s dilemma game.This study focuses on different gender groups using the Single Category Implicit Association Test(SC-IAT) and three cooperation paradigms(prisoner’s dilemma,public resource dilemma,and public goods dilemma) to explore the influence and mechanism of imagined intergroup contact on implicit gender prejudice and cooperative behavior.Experiment 1 examined the effect of imagined intergroup contact on implicit gender prejudice.The participants were 161 undergraduates(79males and 82 females).It was conducted with a 2(imagined contact type:imagined contact condition,control condition) × 2(gender:male,female)between-subjects design.The participants were asked to complete the questionnaire on prior contact experience,imagine contact with a male or female(experimental condition) or imagine unrelated situations(control condition),and complete the SC-IAT.The results show the following:(1)imagined positive contact can significantly reduce the implicit gender prejudice of the opposite gender(F(1,156)=11.23,p<.01,ηp2=.07).(2) There is no significant gender difference in the implicit gender prejudice of the opposite gender.These findings suggest that imagined intergroup contact can effectively reduce implicit gender prejudice by arousing positive emotional experiences in individuals.Experiment 2 examined the effect of imagined intergroup contact on cooperative behavior and the mediating role of implicit gender prejudice.The participants were 100 undergraduates(37 males and
