摘要
权威书评是衡量华人文学在海外影响力的重要指标之一。本文以21世纪以来《纽约时报》和《纽约客》对华人文学的评介为分析中心,研究华人文学在美国的接受度和影响力,采用定量和定性相结合的研究方法,自建“华人书评语料库”,旨在探索华人文学在美国的接受度。首先从时间、体裁、作家、主题词四个维度整体把握华人文学在美国的评介情况,接着在量化研究的基础上进行质性分析,从文本层面分析华人文学在美国的接受度和影响力。基于对所搜集的201篇书评和相关报道的分析发现:第一,受评华人作家的数量相对可观,女性作家多于男性作家;第二,受评作品具有较强的获奖效应,主题范围较广;第三,多数评介仍存在意识形态差异,试图通过作品透视中国现代社会;第四,逐渐凸显作品的文学性;第五,英语书写更容易让西方读者接受,也为华人作家带来了身份认同;第六,华人文学仍在文化间“摆渡”,虽然具有一定的影响力,但并未真正融入美国主流文学。
Authoritative reviews are one of the important indexes for measuring the influence of overseas Chinese(huaren)literature.With the commentaries on and introductions to Chinese(huaren)literature, made by The New York Times and The New Yorker, as the centre of analysis, this article, intends to study the reception and influence of that literature in the United States of America by using a combined qualitative and quantitative method and self-establishing a corpus of huaren reviews in order to explore the reception of Chinese(huaren)literature in America. First of all, we got hold of the review situation in America in relation to Chinese(huaren)literature on four levels of time, genre, writers and themes. Then, we conducted a qualitative analysis based on the quantitative study, analyzing the reception and influence of Chinese(huaren)literature in America. Based on the analysis of 201 reviews and relevant reports, it is found that there is a considerable number of Chinese(huaren)writers that are reviewed and that there are more female writers than male ones. Secondly, the reviewed works have a strong award-winning effect, with a wide range of themes. Thirdly, most of the reviews still show ideological differences as they try to view the Chinese society through the works. Fourthly, the literariness of the works is gradually accentuated. Fifthly,writings in English are easier to be accepted by the Western readers and for Chinese(huaren)writers to achieve personal identification. Sixthly, Chinese(huaren)are still swinging in between despite their influence as they have not really merged into mainstream American literature.
