摘要
以清初南京天主教学校十六位学生关于佛教持斋的作业为例,分析清初天主教与儒、佛之间的复杂互动。这些作业的特殊之处在于,其不是从天主教而主要是从儒家人文主义视角去批判佛教。这反映出天主教学生受儒家古典教育影响较深,使得他们的文章更有可能跨出宗教语境而进入士大夫的话语圈。这一思路传承了自利玛窦以来的“补儒绝佛”之策略。学生们的作业在很多方面掩盖了天主教与儒家的差异,如果这种差异被揭示出来,儒家士大夫可能会以同样的文化保守主义排斥天主教。
Based on 16-students assignments about Buddhist fast in a Catholic school in Nanjing in the early Qing Dynasty, this paper analyzes the complex interaction between Catholicism and Confucianism and Buddhism.What is special in these assignments is that the students commented on Buddhism mainly from the perspective of Confucian humanism rather than that of Catholicism, reflecting the education of classic Confucianism of these students.And this approach helps their comments out of the religious context so as to be in conformity with the discourses of the literati, following Matteo Ricci’s strategy of borrowing from the Confucian classics to denounce the Buddhism. The students’ assignments in many aspects hide the differences between Catholicism and Confucianism. If these differences were revealed, the Confucian literati would reject Catholicism in view of cultural conservatism.
