Obesity is one of the most common chronic metabolic diseases and is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The main danger of overweight and obesity is that they can lead to serious health problems, and the damage caused by them, such as diabetes and hypertension,is incalculable. The incidence rate and disability rate are increasing year by year, causing a huge burden to the society and economy. As early as in the Inner Canon of Huangdi,it was mentioned that obesity is closely related to residence, physique and diet, and ZHANG Zhongjing, the sage of medicine, also realized in the Synopsis of the Golden Chamber that obesity is not just like“the skin is strong”as seen by the naked eye,but furthermore,it is“inner weak”.Through collecting and organizing ancient literature related to emaciation-thirst disease,we found that obesity is not only closely related to phlegm, water and dampness, but also influenced by Yangqi,so treating obesity from phlegm and Qi is the correct method. The aim of this paper is to build a clear and hierarchical theoretical framework,to build a bridge between TCM theory and TCM clinical practice,in order to provide new ideas for the study of TCM ancient literature and TCM treatment of obesity, and to make a modest contribution to the transmission and development of TCM theory.
