The Seoul Metropolitan Area(SMA) is one of the largest metropolitan areas in South Korea and even Asia. As the main logistics gateway in Northeast Asia, it undertakes a large amount of production and consumption logistics. Cold-chain logistics is one of the most important and fastest-growing consumption logistics. Meanwhile, cold-chain can keep the goods in certain temperature conditions to maintain their quality from production to consumption accordingly. The continuing population growth and rapid e-commerce development are driving the demand for the evolution of consumption and this attribute is estimated to actuate the growth of the cold chain industry. With the joint action of the land market and demand market, centrifugal and centripetal forces alter the spatial agglomeration area of cold chain logistics facilities. This paper teases out the present logistics supply-demand relationship and logistics planning in SMA. And on this basis, it explores the spatial evolution mode of cold chain logistics facilities and discusses how technology, society, economy, and institutions affect the location of such facilities together. As a logistics gateway, the role of cold chain logistics planning in metropolitan areas is of great significance. Our conclusion can provide a theoretical reference for the further optimization of location decisions for cold chain logistics centers in metropolitan areas in the future.
