美国华裔作家任碧莲于2020年出版的科幻小说《反抗者》通过构想美国未来社会的状况,表达了她对美国严重社会现实问题的关切,同时也为解决这些问题提供了启示,彰显出当代美国华裔文学创作的现实价值。凭借大胆的想象,任碧莲构建出一个未来的美国社会,展现出在跨种族婚姻的美国移民家庭中,两代人致力于追求种族平等和社会公平的努力,以此将难以言说的现实问题延伸至未知的想象世界书写中,从而探讨蕴含其中的深刻主题:极权主义、种族主义、移民遣返、环境恶化等。作品彰显出任碧莲对美国社会现实问题的深刻理解,表达其对美国民主政治本质内涵的质疑,流露出强烈的批判精神与忧患意识。
The Chinese-American writer Gish Jen’s latest novel The Resisters presents her concerns over the severe social realities in America and her proposed solution for these problems,thus illustrating the realistic significance of contemporary Chinese-American literature.As science fiction,the novel constructs an imaginative America in the future and vividly envisions two generations of an interracial family who are devoted to pursuing racial equality and social justice,thus extending the unspeakable issues in reality into writings about an imaginative future world.The series of thoughtprovoking issues include totalitarianism,racism,forced repatriation of immigrants and environmental degradation,etc.The novel displays Jen’s considerable insights into American social issues and demonstrates her critical stance and sense of anxiety over the essential American democracy.
