摘要
通过对林语堂博士学位论文和导师孔好古评语两件新近发现文献的解读,讨论林语堂与孔好古的关系,可以为林语堂转向之谜提供新的解释。林语堂和孔好古之间应该有着良好的互动关系,林语堂后来转向文学,跟导师孔好古没有关系。林语堂论文所得的2分,在新的评分体系里比旧评分体系要高一级;学位论文中没有参考孔好古的汉语声调起源理论,可能是其得分不高的原因之一。孔好古给林语堂论文的评分并无不妥,也并没有因为林语堂是中国人而歧视他。林语堂博士学位论文建立的、以方言关系为前提的汉语上古音体系,具有超前的学术价值,是开创崭新模式的积极探索,但是在当时的学术眼光看,也存在引述不当、对汉学成果吸收不够的缺陷。
This paper discusses the relationship between Lin Yutang and his supervisor August Conrady by interpreting Lin Yutang’s doctoral dissertation,Conrady ’s comments,and two newly discovered documents.Then it provides a newexplanation for the mystery of Lin Yutang’s turn of his research.Lin Yutang’s doctoral dissertation has advanced academic value and is an active exploration to create a new research paradigm.However,from the academic point of viewat that time,there were also shortcomings such as insufficient citation and insufficient absorption of Sinology achievements.There should be a good interactive relationship between Lin Yutang and Conrady.The reason why Lin Yutang turned to literature research,had nothing to do with Conrady.Conrady did not discriminate against Lin Yutang because he was Chinese.
