Objective To explore antibody levels against group A and C Neisseria meningitis(Nm) in a healthy population of Henan province. Methods We used a stratified random sampling technique to select healthy individuals in 8 counties/cities of Henan during 2019-2021 for a questionnaire-based survey and collection of serum samples. We used an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to test for IgG antibodies against group A and group C Nm to determine seropositivity rates and median concentrations(MCs).Results Among the 5 073 subjects, overall positivity rates of group A and C Nm IgG antibodies were 53.83% and 42.20%, with MCs being 2.23μg/mL and 1.49μg/mL, respectively. Positivity rates for group A Nm IgG antibody among <1-, 1-2-, 3-4-, 5-6-, 7-14-, 15-19-, and ≥20-year-olds were 29.79%, 31.81%, 58.00%, 58.92%, 66.39%, 60.85%, and 70.99%(χ^(2)=468.58,P<0.001). Seropositivity rates for group C Nm IgG antibody were 22.76%, 29.18%, 50.90%, 43.15%, 51.10%, 45.98%, and 52.35%(χ^(2)=243.60,P<0.001).Conclusions Antibody levels against group A and C Nm were low in a healthy population of Henan, especially among young children. We suggest optimizing meningococcal vaccination strategies and strengthening meningococcal meningitis prevention and control.
