This article summarizes the clinical experience of XIE Leye in the treatment of xerostomia.About 10%to 20%xerostomia was due to lack of body fluid. There are three conditions to relieve xerostomia:Firstly, sufficient body fluid is the source of water.Secondly, promotion and metaplasia of Yang Qi(阳气)is the power of water.Thirdly, the body fluid runs smoothly, which is the road of water.Tutor XIE puts forward the therapeutic ideas of“transforming Qi,harmonizing, clearing fire, nourishing Yin(阴),warming Yang and removing blood stasis”,which have achieved good clinical effects. If the gasification fails and the water flowing stops, the treatment lies in promoting gasification and relieving both the exterior and interior. If Shaoyang(少阴)cardinal fails and the body fluid distribution is in disorder, the treatment lies in harmonizing Shaoyang. If fire and heat flourishes and injures Qi,the treatment lies in clearing heat and promoting fluid production. If deficiency of kidney-Yin(阴)leads to inflammation, the treatment lies in nourishing Yin to lessen fire.If the water stops in the middle Jiao(焦)and fluid fails to distribute, the treatment lies in warming Yang for resolving fluid retention. If the blood stasis blocks, the treatment lies in promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis. In the clinical treatment of xerostomia, four diagnoses should be combined to find the cause, grasp the pathogenesis, and treat the disease according to syndrome differentiation, which will help to achieve good curative effect.
