For the past century, Chinese painting and calligraphy has enjoyed popularity all over the world. On the one hand, it represents the supreme state of the unity of man and nature in human civilization, on the other hand, it also symbolizes that China is now increasingly powerful and prosperous. Throughout the ages, Qi Baishi’s works of Chinese painting and calligraphy have been recognized as “hard currency” in the international community. Taking Qi Baishi’s works collected in the Kyoto National Museum, Japan, China’s neighbouring country as an example, this paper presents the genuine status of Chinese calligraphy and painting in overseas dissemination from the source of collections to a number of activities of the museum, such as preservation, restoration, exhibition, research and education.
