From August to October 2019,the Taiyuan Municipal Institute of Archaeology conducted salvage excavations of the joint burial mural tomb of Guo Xing and his wife Liang in the Tang Dynasty, which was the largest Tang Dynasty mural tomb found in the Taiyuan area, since it was undisturbed with the mural paintings and excavated artefacts well preserved. After sampling, extracting and identifying the contents of the jars and the fillings of various parts of the tomb,it was found that the plant remains were concentrated in the jars and occasionally found in the burial paths. The major plant species present were mainly corn, millet and hemp, with a small amount of dogwood, and the remains of corn and millet were still kept fresh;in addition, dendritic phyllosomes in the inflorescence tissue of wheat,Ω-andη-type phyllosomes in the lemmas of corn and millet, phyllosomes in the lemmas of seeds of the subfamily early graminae, and suspected poppy were extracted, indicating that the dry crops consumed and cultivated in Taiyuan during the Tang Dynasty were mainly corn, millet, and hemp, and wheat also occupied a certain proportion in the economic life of the ancestors. It provides valuable physical information for studying the types and methods of food buried in the Tang tombs in Taiyuan, and understanding the concept of funeral and social life in Taiyuan during the Tang Dynasty.
