In the modern society with rapid economic development, the impact of urban heat island effect is more and more prominent, which seriously threatens people's health. Therefore, this paper chooses a factor related to the intensity of heat island effect, namely urban expansion,to study the relationship between them.Based on the remote sensing image data of Taiyuan city from 2004 to 2020,using ArcGIS 10.2 and ENVI 5.3 as the data processing platform, this paper obtains the land use status map and urban surface temperature classification map of Taiyuan City,so as to analyze the urban expansion of Taiyuan City in recent 20 years and judge its impact on surface temperature. The specific results of the study are as follows:1.2004 to 2020 Taiyuan City's construction land area increased by 1124.3072 km^(2),it can be seen that Taiyuan City's urban expansion is more obvious;2.From 2004 to 2020,the area of the high temperature zone in Taiyuan City increased, which showed that the intensity of the urban heat island effect in Taiyuan City increased;3.In the past two decades, the high temperature area produced by the hot island effect of Taiyuan City has also shown an increasing trend with the expansion of construction land, and is distributed in the area where the construction land is located, which shows that the urban expansion of Taiyuan City has a certain influence on the heat island effect.
