As one of the most important post-war writers in America, Norman Mailer witnesses the transition of American society for almost half a century. Both literariness and sociality in his works can rank him as a classic writer within the world. But if a foreign work is expected to be accepted and sanctioned as a cannon in the country of target language, with no talk of the aesthetic value of the context itself, the translation, publication and criticism of the work are prior to others among the elements making it a cannon. Once the works is translated and published, not only will the reading population be increased, but the scholars can have a deeper exploration into the context and have more possibilities of interpretation so as to move on the sustainable development of the study, helping quicken the pace of canonization. Within a given time, the sustainability of critical study can accordingly promote the booming of translation studies, thus consolidating the position of cannon. Therefore, the translation, publication and criticism of Mailer’s works attach so much importance to their canonization in the culture of target language.
