摘要
托尼·莫里森(1931—2019)的小说《宠儿》讲述了蓄奴制度下三代黑人女性的苦难经历与心灵挣扎。虽不曾遭受奴隶制的无情摧残,但身为第三代家庭成员的丹芙却因母亲塞丝的弑婴行为而被黑人团体所排斥,在长达十二年的时间里深陷孤立无援的境地。从科胡特自体心理学角度来说,失聪的生理反应标志着丹芙人格发展中自体的崩解,而宠儿的出现满足了她童年时期受阻的自恋移情需求,为其自体的重建提供了可能。在小说结尾,团体的接纳给予了丹芙重新拥抱生活的力量,爱的回归保证了其自体的统整和稳定。丹芙坎坷的心理成长历程揭示了社会关系在人格发展中的重要作用,而个体与集体的紧密联结也是黑人种族走出创伤、重建未来的关键所在。
Toni Morrison's Beloved narrates a story about the miserable experience and mental struggle of three generations under slavery system.Though being the only one in her family who was born with freedom,Denver never enjoyed unfettered life but had been isolated and living in fear for twelve years because of her mother's crime of murder.From the view of Kohut's self-psychology,the loss of hearing marks the disintegration of Denver's vulnerable self,while the company of Beloved paves the way for her reconstruction through satisfying her frustrated narcissistic needs.At last,she regains her sense of integrity as well as the power to embrace a new life with the support of community and love.Denver's mental growth from juvenility to maturity has demonstrated the significance of social connection in personal development,which is also the key for black community to reconstruct their racial future.
