摘要
晚清物理学译著《格物质学》的底本由史砥尔编写的系列教科书组成,是美国19世纪后期流行的物理学教科书。书中实验的特点及功能折射出该时期美国物理教育的价值与使命。深入分析了史砥尔物理学教科书中实验的细微结构,发现书中实验不仅体现了该时期美国科学教育界希望通过实验培养学生探索精神的期许,也承载了当时普通美国民众对于教科书实用性价值的追求。
The original English version of Ge Wuzhixue, a translation of physics in the late Qing dynasty, is one of the popular physics textbooks in the United States in the late 19 th century. The characteristics and functions of the experiments in the book reflect the value and mission of American physics education in this period. An in-depth analysis of the subtle structure of the experiments in the textbooks reveals that the experiments in the book not only reflect the expectation of American science and education community to cultivate students’ spirit of exploration through experiments, but also carries the pursuit of practical value of textbooks by ordinary Americans.
