摘要
《海国图志》出版之初,先有在华传教士郭实腊1847年的评论,再有英国外交官威妥玛1850年对其中《日本》一章的译介。通过对这两个文本的解读可知,《海国图志》中辗转辑录的大量来源于在华西人著述的内容存在着一定的错误;而同时期在华西人显然已积累起相当的汉学知识,但也存在着若干不足。这两个文本也为学界早些年关于《海国图志》的版本争论提供了进一步探讨的空间,威妥玛《海国图志·日本》译介本是目前学界尚未关注到的汉学文本,对其内容的披露有助于学界进一步的研究。
Following the publication of Hai Kuoh Tu Chi,at first there was the 1847 review of Charles Gutzlaff,a missionary in China,and then in 1850 there was the translation of the chapter on“Japan”by the British diplomat Thomas Francis Wade.From the interpretations in these two texts,we can see that there are some mistakes in the contents of the book,which originated from the writings of Westerners in China.Obviously,the Westerners in China in the same period had accumulated considerable sinological knowledge,but there were also some shortcomings.These two texts also provide room for further discussion on the recent controversy with regards to the versions of the Hai Kuoh Tu Chi.The translated chapter“Japan”of Hai Kuoh Tu Chi by the British diplomat Thomas Francis Wade is a sinological text that has not yet attracted academic attention,its content will no doubt promote further study.
