英国工艺美术运动促进了艺术陶瓷之兴起和现代革新,在当时主要的几种艺术陶瓷发展潮流中,马丁兄弟以其对于盐釉艺术炻器之重要开拓创新,成为英国工艺美术运动代表性陶艺家和英国艺术陶瓷运动之重要先驱。马丁兄弟的盐釉炻器作品风格多元、刚健有力、富于想象力和异国情调,反映出中世纪哥特艺术、日本主义、文艺复兴和自然主义等多重影响并熔铸为一体;马丁兄弟表情生动丰富古怪并拟人化的怪鸟、怪兽和怪鱼系列创作,融雕塑、绘画和器皿造型设计为一体,并注入不羁之想象和对现世之讽喻,创造出一个神采斐然、瑰丽怪诞的陶艺世界。
The British Arts and Crafts Movement promoted the rise of artistic ceramics and its modern innovation.Among the major trends of artistic ceramic development at that time,the Martin Brothers became the representative ceramic artists of the British Arts and Crafts Movement and the important forerunners of the British artistic ceramic movement,with their important pioneering and innovation of the salt-glazed art stoneware.The Martin Brothers’salt-glazed stoneware works are diverse,vigorous,imaginative and exotic,reflecting the fusion of medieval Gothic art,Japanisme,Renaissance and naturalism.The Martin Brothers’vivid,eccentric and anthropomorphic series of strange birds,monsters and fish create a wonderful,magnificent and eerie world of pottery by combining sculpture,painting and vessel design with unruly imagination and allegory of the present world.
