摘要
华裔美国老年人是美国老龄化社会中的重要成员,他们的形象在华裔美国文学文本中不断涌现,但并未引起广泛关注。在老年学研究的推动下,赵健秀、任璧莲等作家的作品中的老年人形象展示出独特的魅力。通过细读他们的作品可见,华裔老年人形象经历了历史性的变迁,他们从早期的"老而无用"演变为现代社会中的"老有所为",这是华裔美国家庭融入美国社区的结果,也是华裔老年人积极入世、沟通中美文化的成果。
Old Chinese Americans are important members of the ageing American society,whose images keep appearing in Chinese American texts without receiving much attention.Under the impetus of gerontology,writers like Frank Chin and Jish Ren have written about the old people with uniquely appealing images.A careful reading of their works reveals that the images of old Chinese Americans have experienced historical transformation as they have moved from being‘old and useless’in the early days to being‘old and useful’in modern society,a result of their families merging into the American community and of their active participation in the world and in communicating between Chinese and American cultures.
