摘要
如何在英语学术论文写作与发表这一话题领域开展科学有效的质性研究是值得二语写作研究者关注的问题。本文聚焦以EAL新手学者的能动性为子话题的质性案例研究何(Ho,2017),深入分析评价这一研究存在的三个主要问题:核心概念界定不明,无法充分阐释研究语料;推理逻辑与研究性质不完全匹配;研究发现的汇报严谨性不足。据此,本文反思总结质性案例研究设计与汇报的科学方法,以期为同类型的研究带来启示。
How to conduct effective and rigorous qualitative research on the topic area of English academic writing and publication is a matter of concern for second language writing researchers.This article contributes to our understanding of this issue by pointing out three major problems in Ho(2017)'s qualitative multiple-case study on the role of EAL novice scholars'agency.This study is not considered as a rigorous one,for on the one hand,the core notion of agency is so weakly defined that the data can hardly be sufficiently interpreted,and on the other,the reasoning does not follow the replication logic that should have been employed.Meanwhile,some arguments are either distracting or inadequately supported in the presentation of the research findings.The analysis of these problems has implications for the design and presentation of qualitative case studies on this topic area.
