摘要
亲属称谓泛化是指说话者以某个具体的亲属关系为参照点,要么用它指称其他亲属关系或类属关系,要么用它理解亲属关系及类属关系之外的社会关系或抽象概念,以表达特定的情感或特殊目的。在现有的莎剧汉译本中,亲属称谓泛化的翻译问题主要是硬译、漏译和误译。以13部莎剧为研究对象,考察sister在莎士比亚时代的意义和用法,然后分析梁实秋和朱生豪在该词泛化用法上的汉译策略。研究发现:sister在13部莎剧中共出现108例,包含“姐妹”“女性同伴”“修女”“女巫”4个义项。梁实秋和朱生豪在sister泛化用法的翻译策略上似乎都倾向于“功能对等”,出现这种现象的原因在于汉语中的“姐妹”与莎士比亚时代的sister在泛化用法上相差较大。
concepts beyond,with the aim of expressing a particular emotion or purpose.In current Chinese versions of Shakespeare’s plays,the translation problems on such linguistic phenomenon are rigid translation,omitted translation and mistranslation.This paper takes 13 plays from Shakespeare’s works as the research objects,investigates the meaning and usage of sister in Shakespeare’s era,and then analyzes the translation strategies in translating sister’s generalized usages between Liang Shiqiu and Zhu Shenghao.The results of the study indicate that there are 108 cases of the use of sister in those 13 plays with a total of 4 different meanings,including“female sibling”“female associates”“female fellows in a religious order”and“witches”.Both Liang Shiqiu and Zhu Shenghao tended to adopt the strategy of functional equivalence in translating sister’s generalized usages for the reason that the usage of“jie mei”in Chinese and“sister”in Shakespeare’s English differ greatly in the aspect of generalization.
