The post-war modernist new city in Western Europe has three core duties:the base platform of social residence, the promotion of economic development, and the implement of the residence ideal, thereby forming the competitiveness of the metropolis.Using this background as a contrast, the post-war new cities constructions in Hong Kong and Singapore have taken two different development paths. The former is limited to the single function of social residence, and the intensive space has gradually become a profit tool for real estate;the latter uses the new city as a platform of metropolis comprehensive strategy, while promoting the derivation of the economic development, assists the social management model, and improves the cohesion of community life, and gradually becomes the flagship of the urban culture.
