摘要
费正清是美国现代中国学的开拓者和奠基者,完成了从古典汉学向近现代中国研究的过渡,创立了以地区研究为标志的现代中国学,并建立了近现代中国研究的基本框架和模式,同时致力于中美关系史和美国外交政策的研究。他以现代中国问题研究为核心的中国研究事业赢得了“费正清时代”的美誉,其超过半个世纪的历史底蕴和巨大影响,对美国国内的中国研究事业产生了深远的推动作用,费正清时代的历史研究成果和科学方法值得探究和提升。
John King Fairbank is the exploiter and founder of the Modern Chinese Studies in America in the United States,who eventually helped the ancient Sinology to develop and modernize into the Modern Chinese Studies today,which is symbolized with regional studies.Meanwhile he structured the frame and mode of the modern Chinese Studies correspondingly with the devotion to the research on the history of Sino-US relationship and diplomatic policies.The honor of“John King Fairbank Era”was won for his China research career centered on studying the problems in modern China.The historical profit and long-lasting influence of his research for over half a century gave impetus to develop the China Studies in the United States.Thus,his academic historical accomplishments and scientific methods are worth exploring and improving.
