摘要
自殖民地时代以来,较之于美国主流文化,美国南方文化具有鲜明的地域特征。南北战争和战后重建不但没有改造南方文化,甚至还使之进一步强化。南北战争后,美国南部长期面临农业落后、农民贫困、农村凋敝的“三农问题”。造成这一现象的原因是多方面的,而南方文化中的一些糟粕如不重视教育、信宗教不信科学、奴隶制文化残余等是不可忽视的因素。
Compared with the mainstream of American culture,the culture of American South has its regional characteristics since colonial times.The American Civil War and Reconstruction did not transform the American Southern culture,but strengthened it.For various reasons,the American Southern had been confronted with the problems of agricultural backwardness,farmer’s poverty and rural destitution for a long time after the Civil War.The reasons included some negative elements of American Southern culture such as neglect of education,believing in religion but not in science,remnants of slavery culture,and so on,cannot be ignored.
