The electric grid is unique in that electricity supply and demand must remain tightly balanced at all times.In the past,this balancing act was performed by vertically utilities that controlled both the generation and the delivery systems.With the development of human society and economic needs,electricity consumption and supply patterns are becoming complex and diverse.Emerging innovative technologies are also driving the revolution of electric grid.These pose more and more challenges to traditional power balancing measures and grid framework.The growing consensus in the industry and among many national governments is that to face the challenges,modern power grids need to become smarter.Therefore,considerable activities are being carried out in the United States,Europe,and China for the development of smart grid.
