摘要
本文以美国作家诺曼·梅勒的《为什么我们在越南?》为研究对象,从抗议文学的定义入手,首先将这部作品定位为美国抗议文学的代表作,通过揭示作家的抗议策略深入解读梅勒的小说人物在20世纪中叶的美国社会所面临的困境。论文将作品中充满张力的语言背后蕴含的抗议内涵揭示出来,分别从抗议策略的三个方面,即移情、冲击值与象征行动,呈现小说在叙事和行动层面的抗议机制,突出作为"象征行动"的嬉皮士哲学成为作家反抗现实的有效策略。本文将研究视野投向美国越战时期的文化背景,拨开文化乱象的杂草,以揭示抗议策略为途径,展现作家对美国极权社会弊病及人类命运的深刻思考,进而凸显文本的抗议性和人文反思内涵。
This essay is a research of Protest Literature based on Norman Mailer’s Why are We in Vietnam?.According to the definition of Protest Literature,Why are We in Vietnam?is defined as one of the representative works of American Protest Literature in this essay.By analyzing the protest strategies(Empathy,Shock Value and Symbolic Action),this essay further reveals the predicament the characters faced in mid-20th century American society.The essay discusses the protest connotation behind the expressive language,and presents the novel’s narrative and action protest mechanism,so as to highlight the hippie philosophy as an effective strategy of "symbolic action" to resist the reality.Focusing on the cultural background of Vietnam War,this essay intends to show the author’s deep thinking on the social ills of American totalitarian society and human destiny by presenting the protest strategies,revealing the protest traits and the humanistic reflective connotation of the novel.
