摘要
狄更斯在其作品中大量描写工业革命后英国资产阶级对劳苦大众的压榨与剥削,尤其关注当时身心俱受迫害的底层儿童。在寄予他们深切同情之余,狄更斯猛烈抨击了使这些儿童深受伤害的资产阶级教育制度。本文通过梳理狄更斯的教育观、其作品所揭露的英国19世纪教育制度的弊病,结合19世纪初英国初等教育改革,探讨狄更斯在英国19世纪初等教育变革中的角色,厘清其颇具争议的教育“革命者”和“改良者”身份。
In his works,Dickens portrayed the oppression and exploitation of the working masses by the British bourgeoisie after the Industrial Revolution,paying special attention to the underclass children who were traumatized both physically and mentally at that time.While expressing deep sympathy for them,Dickens lashed out at the bourgeois education system which had cruelly hurt them.By combing Dickens’educational view and the defects of the 19th century education system revealed in his works,this paper discusses Dickens’role in the 19th century primary education reform in England,and clarifies his controversial identity as“revolutionist”or“reformer”.
