烟台这座历史并不悠远的城市,能够跻身国家历史文化名城之列,乃由近代开放芝罘口岸所赐。人们常说:时势造英雄。时势又何尝不能造就一座名城?这"时势"便是烟台开埠,159年前启端的对外开放,使烟台从偏处一隅的胶东"渔村"转身成为华洋共处的港口城市,可谓异军突起,后来居上。由山东大学出版社近日发行的《西方人与近代烟台》一书,正是从中国与西方相互融汇的视角,对近代烟台转型与世变的历史记录。
