One of the most striking features of the Latin American women writers is the incompatibility between their "witness" intention beyond the emotional family world, focusing on the fate of their country, and their "silent marginal" situation in a social order that deprives them of the right to speak as women in the patriarchal society. In their works a girl, or "outsider" in multiple senses, may commit the "transgression" of witnessing or experiencing great events in the "public domain" and recording it with her own narrative voice. As the little girl’s narration of historical events, more emotional than rational, records personal experience more than documentary facts, it constitutes an alternative historical memory. This literary narrative that subverts official history also expresses the Mexican female writers’ search for self-identity and self-reality.
