Osteocalcin(OC)is a marker protein that is specifically expressed after osteoblasts differentiation and maturation.Recent studies have shown that OC can not only exert its role in bone growth, but also has biological activity and can regulate energy metabolism and male reproductive function.Late-onset hypopogonadism(LOH)in men is a clinical syndrome that is related to the aging of men, with decreased serum testosterone secretion as the main symptom. In addition to clinical manifestations such as hyposexuality and sexual dysfunction,it is also often accompanied by systemic symptoms such as changes in bone density and metabolic syndrome. This paper reviews the molecular biology property and functions of OC and its correlation with LOH.
