摘要
高等教育强国战略的提出和"双一流"建设的实施,标志着中国大学正在以深层次的改革与创新促进内涵提升。20世纪初,美国大学也曾经历过旨在稳固根本、提升内涵的"大变革时代"。当时美国社会高速发展,高等教育获得了巨额投资和捐助,但由于盲目学习他国,急于打造实用性、专门化的科研平台,忽视甚至放弃宽口径、厚基础的本科教育,大学根基薄弱、创新乏力。以哈佛大学校长洛厄尔为首的改革者通过理念创新和制度改革重建本科教育,奠定了美国精英大学走向伟大的根基,值得中国大学关注和分析。
The implementation of strategy of strengthening the country through higher education and the“Double First-class”construction indicate that China's universities are promoting their connotation with deep-seated reform and innovation.At the beginning of the 20th century,American universities also experienced“the Era of Great Innovation”which aimed at stabilizing fundamentals and enhancing connotations.At that time,with the rapid development of American society,higher education received huge investment and donations.However,because of simply learning from other countries,trying to build a practical and specialized research platform,ignoring or even abandoning broad-caliber,thick-based undergraduate education,it resulted in a weak foundation of universities.The reformers led by President of Harvard University Lowell rebuilt undergraduate education through ideological innovation and institutional reform,laid the foundation for American elite universities to become great,which deserves attention and analysis of China's universities.
